You’ve heard it before…You need mobile-friendly video ads for an effective digital advertising campaign on Facebook Ads…But is it true or can you get by using static images that you already have? The performance of Facebook Video Ads might just surprise you. We’re gonna look at a some real data from a campaign that put still images up against video.

I’ve been running video ads on Facebook for clients for about 5 years now. I always tell my clients that they should invest in video ads, but I never had hard data on the actual difference in ad performance. Well, I decided to change that. Now I have some very solid real world data that proves video is by far the king of the Facebook ad world. For this test I am running Facebook ads for my client, Rocky Mountain Laser College. The overall goal of the campaign is to drive relevant traffic to the website, so cost per link click is a key metric for us. At first we were running just still image ads since we didn’t have any video content. After a couple months we had the targeting and segmentation dialed on Facebook. I went to my client’s office and shot a relatively simple and low-budget video that I turned into an ad.  It’s nothing special in terms of content or production but the results were amazing.

In order to run a relatively-controlled test, we got a baseline of data using our top performing image ads for the first 11 days of the month.  Then 11 days into the month, the video ad started running…If you’re still reading, it’s time to tap that video above.
